• Dr. Michael W. Fox,  renowned veterinarian, former vice president of The Humane Society of the United States, former vice president of Humane Society International, and the author of more than 40 books and a syndicated columnist, lists all the questionable and unhealthful ingredients in manufactured pet foods. 
• Dr. Elizabeth Hodgkins, former head veterinarian and board member at Hill's Company, maker of Science Diet, argues that epidemic proportions of pet obesity and diabetes are caused by commercial dry pet foods. 
• Dr. Francis Pottenger, in his famous cat nutrition study, showed that generations of cats on raw diets remained healthy, while those on cooked diets, degenerated.

Murphy is World’s Top Dock Dog Golden Retriever!

Murphy, owned and trained by Cyndi Porter of the local Dock Dogs organization, became Dock Dogs Top Golden Retriever Worldwide at the recently concluded National Dock Dogs Championships.  Dock Dogs is an exciting sport where dogs run down a 40ft dock and leap in a 50ft pool.   Murphy holds the longest jump for a Golden Retriever at 24’8”.

Cyndi switched Murphy to an all raw diet this past June and was one of Woody’s first customers.  Murphy was always in great shape, however since feeding raw, Cyndi says Murphy is even better, his build is more muscular, and his coat and skin are healthier.  During the competition, Murphy ate raw Cornish game hen, a high fat meat that helped sustain his performance.  Cyndi says she could really see the difference in Murphy’s competitions.   Murphy also earned his Flyball Grand Champion Title this year.  His slimmer, toned body has improved his times at tournaments by 3-4 seconds and his times are consistent throughout a tournament with less recovery time between races.  (www.dockdogsnorthernstars.com)

FOOD FOR THOUGHT:  In their home countries, working dogs are still fed real food to sustain their strength and stamina.  The Nordic breeds like malamutes, huskies, and samoyeds eat seal, reindeer, whale, and lots of fish.  Salukis of the Middle East are fed hares, foxes, and desert gazelles.
